Bovada poker bots: the rules, the anonymous tables, the 2026 video

By Theo Brandt, independent poker bot operator ·

Bovada bans bots in writing and says it will forfeit the balance of any account it catches. It also removes player names from every table, which stops outsiders from checking whether it enforces that rule. I did not run my bench on Bovada, so this page has no win rates. It contains the clauses quoted from the Terms of Service snapshot I read on 6 October 2026, the operator's own answer to the January 2026 "bot farm" video, and a list of what is still unknown.

What this page is, and what it is not

The comparison on the homepage comes from my own test on PPPoker, described on the methodology page. Bovada is a US-facing site with real-money tables and a different client, so none of those results carry over. Putting a bot on it would mean months of play at real risk, and I have not done that. Every Bovada claim below is tied to a dated source I opened myself, or marked as an allegation. The same approach is on my ACR page, which is a separate room with a separate record.

What the Terms of Service say

I read the Terms of Service in an Internet Archive snapshot taken 19 January 2025 (the live page redirects to a login screen from outside the supported countries). The document is headed "Latest update: January 3rd, 2024". Three clauses matter for a bot operator.

ClauseWhat it saysWhat it means in practice
6.3 No Player Assistance Programs External "player assistance programs" built to give an advantage are "expressly prohibited". The definition covers software and also databases or profiles, such as websites and subscription services. Gathering data on other players beyond your own observation counts. The ban covers HUDs, trackers, solver overlays and bots. Bovada may close the account and void winnings if it establishes use.
6.4 "Bots" Prohibited Every action must be executed by the player through the supplied interface. Bovada says it will take "any measures necessary" so that robot software "will be detected and prevented from accessing the Website". Accounts tied to it face review and possible termination. If it determines a bot was used, all balances, deposits included, shall be forfeited. At the operator's discretion, the penalty can include forfeiting the deposit and winnings, not only a ban.
6.5 Collusion Trading card information or other collusion brings a permanent ban. Collusion includes discussing a hand during play, in the client chat or outside it, and several players using one account. Running several bot seats in one pool is a separate violation on top of 6.4.

A clause is a promise about policy and says nothing about how well detection works. The snapshot is from January 2025, so the live wording may differ today. I could not open the live document to compare.

Anonymous tables change who can catch a bot

Bovada's own anonymous-tables page describes every session as a clean slate: opponents see no name and no history of your style. That shuts out third-party HUD data by design, and clause 6.3 backs it up in writing.

On ACR, the documented catches came from regulars who tracked a named account over thousands of hands. That route does not exist here. Nobody outside Bovada can follow one seat across sessions, so nobody outside Bovada can confirm a catch or a miss. Enforcement can only be judged by what Bovada says, and it publishes very little.

The January 2026 bot-farm video

I checked the operator's reply to this episode directly. Around 17 to 18 January 2026, poker pro Martin Zamani posted a clip that appeared to show a "massive bot farm": rooms of computers running on Ignition and Bovada. GamblingNews reported that Ignition, which shares its player pool with Bovada, replied on 20 January that the footage dates from 2022, that every account in it had already been deleted, and that more accounts found during the review were removed too. Ignition said it does not tolerate cheating and asked players to report suspicious activity. The same report notes that players asked whether people hurt by the 2022 botting would be compensated, and I found no public answer to that.

That episode supports that bots existed on the network at industrial scale at least once, and the operator acknowledges removals after the fact. It does not support any claim about how many bots are active now, or how they were found. Zamani himself said he did not film the video and did not run bots. Treat his follow-up claim of roughly 100 bots in a 2024 Bovada tournament as an allegation without evidence.

What players allege, and what I could not find

Forum threads, including a July 2025 r/poker thread titled "Bots on Bovada", carry estimates of a bot share of the pool that run into the double digits. These are opinions from people who cannot see names across sessions. I give no weight to the percentages.

I searched for but did not find any press release from Bovada or Ignition giving dates, numbers of banned accounts or amounts confiscated; a court case or regulator action against the site over bots; a blog post with enforcement statistics. Some rooms publish such numbers. Bovada, as far as I can see, does not. That means "Bovada catches bots" and "Bovada does not" are both claims nobody can check from outside.

Which bot architecture even fits Bovada

I only have an architectural view here, not a test. Desktop scrapers from the OpenHoldem family read the table with a hand-built map and break whenever the client changes. Bovada serves a browser client and mobile apps, so a map-based bot depends on the vendor keeping up with every update. Emulator-based products read the app instead of pixels. Whether any specific product supports Bovada is a claim for the vendor to prove with a recent, dated build. My bench measured neither on this room. See my criteria for what I ask a vendor.

FAQ

Does Bovada allow bots? No. Clause 6.4 of its Terms of Service prohibits them, and 6.3 prohibits external assistance programs and player databases.

What happens to a caught account? The terms say the account is disabled and all balances, deposits included, shall be forfeited if Bovada determines a bot was used. It decides at its own discretion.

Are there bots on Bovada? The operator confirmed removals after the 2022 footage surfaced. Current numbers are unknown, and the percentages quoted in forums are unverified.

Did you test a bot on Bovada? No. My bench is PPPoker, and the methodology page describes it. This page is a record review.

Is Bovada the same as Ignition? They share a player pool, according to the GamblingNews report, and their rules are close. Ignition's terms were not readable from my location, so I did not quote them.
